Chromosomes not involved in sex determination are called "autosomes" while the chromosomes that are involved in sex determination are called the "sex chromosomes".
We have 22 pairs (44) autosomes, numbered from 1 to 22 (largest to smallest) and one pair of sex chromosomes - X and Y.
